Abstract
The Evolution of the Agricultural Sector in Transylvania and Bessarabia after the 1925 Law on Administrative Unification
This study undertakes a comparative analysis of the evolution of agriculture in the Romanian provinces of Transylvania and Bessarabia following the adoption of the Administrative Unification Law of 1925. The rationale for this inquiry rests on emphasising the efforts of the Romanian administration to integrate the western and eastern provinces into the national socio-economic framework. The 1925 administrative reform established the institutional foundations that enabled county and communal administrations to place increased emphasis on the agricultural development of the newly created territorial-administrative units. In this context, during the latter half of the 1920s and throughout the subsequent decade, Transylvania and Bessarabia benefited from the expertise of agronomic specialists trained both in domestic institutions of higher education and abroad. Concurrently, the state provided substantial support for the education of the rural population through the organisation of seasonal agricultural courses, thematic exhibitions, and the dissemination of specialised knowledge, all aimed at facilitating the practical implementation of modern technologies in crop cultivation and animal husbandry.
